Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish, is an ancient system of astrology that originated in India thousands of years ago. It is deeply rooted in the Vedic texts and scriptures and is considered as one of the most accurate and profound forms of astrology. One of the important concepts in Vedic astrology is Vishti Karanam.

Vishti Karanam is a term used to describe a specific phase in the lunar cycle. In Vedic astrology, the lunar cycle is divided into 30 tithis or lunar days, and each tithi has a specific energy associated with it. Vishti Karanam is considered to be an inauspicious phase, and any activity started during this time is believed to bring unfavorable results.

The term “Vishti” translates to “obstacles” or “problems,” and “Karanam” means “cause” or “reason.” Therefore, Vishti Karanam can be understood as a phase that causes obstacles or difficulties. This concept is based on the belief that the energy during this phase is not conducive for positive and harmonious outcomes.

According to Vedic astrology, there are 11 different karanas, and Vishti Karanam is one of them. The 11 karanas are divided into two categories: good (shubha) and bad (ashubha). Vishti Karanam falls under the ashubha category. The other ashubha karanas are Bhadra, Shakuni, Kaulava, Taitila, and Gara.

Vishti Karanam is said to occur when the moon is in a specific position relative to the sun. It occurs when the moon is in the 8th or 23rd tithi of the lunar cycle. This phase is believed to bring about delays, obstacles, and challenges in any activity or endeavor undertaken during this time.

It is important to note that Vishti Karanam does not mean that one should completely avoid any activity during this phase. It is merely a suggestion to be cautious and mindful of the potential challenges that may arise. It is believed that by being aware of this energy and taking necessary precautions, one can minimize the negative effects and navigate through the obstacles more effectively.

Some of the precautions that are suggested during Vishti Karanam include avoiding important decisions, starting new projects, signing contracts, or making major purchases. It is advisable to postpone these activities to a more favorable time when the energy is more supportive and conducive to positive outcomes.

Additionally, it is believed that performing certain rituals or prayers during this phase can help mitigate the negative effects of Vishti Karanam. These rituals may include chanting specific mantras, performing special prayers, or engaging in spiritual practices like meditation or yoga.

Understanding the concept of Vishti Karanam in Vedic astrology provides valuable insights into the influence of lunar energy on our lives. It reminds us of the importance of timing and aligning our actions with the natural rhythms of the universe. By being mindful of the energy during Vishti Karanam and taking necessary precautions, we can increase the likelihood of success and harmony in our endeavors.
