When the lord of the 7th house sits in the 10th, the chart is tying two areas of life together: partnership and work. Tradition reads it as a life where marriage and profession keep meeting, whether that means a partner found through work, a partner with a public role of their own, or a marriage that visibly changes your standing.

What it does not tell you is what your husband or wife will look like. That claim is all over the internet and it is the weakest thing in this whole subject. I will come to why.

What the two houses stand for

The 7th house is the house of union. Marriage sits here, but so does every other one to one relationship you enter deliberately: a business partner, a client, the person across the table in a negotiation, the contract you sign. Its lord is simply the planet that rules the sign falling on the 7th. For a Taurus ascendant that is Mars, for a Leo ascendant it is Saturn, and so on. Nothing mystical about it. A partner with a life outside the home. Tradition connects this placement with a spouse who has their own occupation, their own visibility, or a family that carries some standing. In a modern Indian household that is unremarkable and mostly a good thing.

Business partnership as a real theme. This is the placement I take most seriously in practice. When the 7th lord goes to the 10th, joint ventures, agency work, co-founded firms and family businesses come up again and again as questions. The caution that goes with it is old and sensible: put the terms in writing, especially where the partner is also a relative.

Marriage as a turning point in work. Sometimes the profession itself shifts around the time of marriage, through a move, a change of city, or a change of household expectations.

Public-facing work. Even in the places where description is discussed, it is written in broad terms that fit enormous numbers of people, and it was written in a society where marriages were arranged inside a narrow circle and the range of possible answers was small. A description that fits half the country is not a description. In twenty five years I have never once been able to identify a person from a chart, and I have never met an astrologer who could.

What I can say from the 7th house and its lord is something more useful: the kind of relationship you tend to build, the setting in which you are likely to meet someone, where the strain is likely to sit, and the periods when the question becomes live. That is worth an hour of anyone's time. A guess about complexion is not.

The career reading of the same placement

The second question people bring here is career, and it is the same placement read from the other end.

A 7th lord in the 10th places one angular house lord into another angular house. Tradition treats that as supportive for standing and for reputation, because the significations of two strong houses are joined. What it points at is a working life built on relationships: clients, counterparts, partners, patients, students. Your birth time. This is the one people skip. Houses are computed from the ascendant, and the ascendant moves roughly one degree every four minutes. If your birth time is a family memory of "around six in the morning", then house-level detail like this is provisional and should be treated that way. A chart drawn on a rounded time can put the 7th lord in the 9th or the 11th instead.

The period running in your chart. A placement is a standing theme. The period tells you when the theme gets loud. This is why two people with the same placement have such different decades.
