A guide to abhisheksoni.in: the free kundli, the panchang and the readings

This site does four things: it draws a real kundli for free, it publishes the panchang every day, it explains the pieces of Vedic astrology one at a time, and it is where you ask me for a reading or book an hour. It was rebuilt from the ground up, so if you are here from an older link, the article you wanted has almost certainly moved rather than disappeared.

The practice reads from Nagpur, and the site is built around readings and booked sittings rather than a per-minute call meter. Nothing here is designed to keep you scrolling, and nothing charges you while you think.

The free kundli

Give a date, a time and a place and the site computes the chart properly and shows it to you. The chart is free and it is the complete one, with nothing held back for a paid tier. An account is made before the chart is cast, so that the chart is saved to you and is still there when you come back to it, but the chart itself costs nothing.

The chart can be drawn in either of the two layouts people in India are used to. The North Indian chart keeps the houses fixed in position and moves the signs through them. The South Indian chart keeps the signs fixed and moves the ascendant. They contain identical information and the argument about which is better is mostly about which one you grew up with.

The time of birth is the part that decides how much the chart is worth. The ascendant moves through the whole circle in a day, so an hour of error rearranges the houses. If you do not have an accurate time, use what you have, and treat the house-based parts of the reading as provisional.

The daily panchang

The panchang is there every day. It carries the tithi, the nakshatra the Moon is passing through, the yoga and the karana, along with sunrise and sunset.

If the panchang has always looked like a wall of terms to you, the short version is this. The tithi is the lunar day, counted from the distance between the Sun and the Moon, which is why it does not line up neatly with the calendar date. The nakshatra tells you where the Moon actually is against the fixed stars, and it changes roughly daily. Most of what families use the panchang for, from fasting days to whether a morning is suitable for starting something, is read off those two.

The learning pages

There is a page for each of the pieces: the nine planets, the twelve rashis, the twenty seven nakshatras and the twelve houses. They are written to be read by somebody with no background, and they are meant to be looked up rather than read through.

Alongside them sit articles like this one, at /learn, answering the questions people actually search for. Written by me, kept honest about what astrology can and cannot do, and revised when I think I have put something badly. If you want a sense of the register before you spend anything, how accurate is astrology is the one I would point you at, because it is where I set out the limits.

The readings, and what each one is

Three paid things, and they are different in kind rather than in size.

A focused reading answers one question from your chart. One clear question, properly examined. Most people should start here.

A full reading goes through the whole chart: the pattern of the person, the main areas of life, the periods that are running and what they are asking for. It is the one to take when the question is not a single question but a stretch of life that has been hard to make sense of.

A sitting is an hour with me, live, on a booked slot. It is for the conversation that needs going back and forth rather than a document, and for questions that change shape once you start talking about them.

Underneath all three there is a wallet: you can put money in, earn points on it, and spend from it when you want a reading. It is a convenience, not a subscription, and nothing is deducted on its own.

WhatsApp is the front door most people use

A lot of people reach me on WhatsApp rather than through a form, and that is fine. If a question is easier typed than filled into a form, type it. The number is on the site. It is worth knowing how it works before you write. A first reply may be automatic, because a message the system recognises is answered straight away rather than left sitting overnight, and silence turned out to be the worst thing that number could do to somebody. Anything it does not recognise goes to a person. Nothing is ignored, and if you would rather have a person than a quick answer, say so and you will get one.

Where the old articles went

The site used to run on a different platform with a great many pages, written in the style that was fashionable for search at the time: long, repetitive, and often three versions of the same subject with slightly different titles. They are being consolidated into fewer articles that are actually worth reading, and the old addresses are being pointed at the new ones. There are thousands of them, so I am still working through the list.

Questions people ask

Is the free kundli the same chart you use for a paid reading? Yes. It is computed the same way and there is no reduced version. What a paid reading adds is the reading itself: which placements matter for your question, which periods are running, and what that means put in plain language. The chart is arithmetic and I see no reason to charge for arithmetic.

Do I need an account to use the site? Not for the panchang or the learning pages. For the kundli you do, because the chart is saved to your account rather than thrown away when you close the tab. The chart itself is free either way, and the account is also how a paid reading comes back to you and stays available to you afterwards.

Which chart style should I choose, North Indian or South Indian? Whichever you can read. They hold the same information arranged differently. If you have no preference, use the one your family's astrologer used, since it will make any older reading you have lying around easier to compare.
