Free kundli: your Vedic birth chart

A kundli, or janma kundli, is your birth chart: the sky at the exact moment and place you were born, read the Vedic way. Enter your date, time and place of birth and the site computes it on the same Swiss Ephemeris the paid readings use.

How the free kundli works

  1. Enter your birth detailsYour name, your date of birth, your exact time of birth and your place of birth.
  2. See your preview, with no accountThe chart is computed live and is not saved to any account: your lagna (rising sign), your Moon sign (Chandra rashi), your birth nakshatra and the mahadasha running now. You can ask Tara, the site's AI assistant, a question about it there and then. So that Tara can answer from your chart, the chart and the birth details are kept on the server for up to 24 hours, then deleted.
  3. Keep the full chart with a free accountCreate a free account and the full chart is cast and kept: the chart itself with the twelve houses and the grahas in them, the divisional charts, and your Vimshottari dasha periods.

A written reading of your chart, reviewed and signed by Abhishek Soni, is a separate, paid service. Readings and prices

How to read a kundli

Read it in layers, in this order. The order matters more than memorising meanings.

The lagna and the twelve houses
The lagna is the rashi rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It fixes the first house, and the other eleven follow in order, each an area of life. The twelve bhavas
The nine grahas
The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, each sitting in a rashi and a house. The nine grahas
Rashi and nakshatra
The rashi a graha sits in colours it. The rashi of your Moon is your Moon sign, and the nakshatra the Moon occupies, one of twenty seven, is your birth nakshatra. The twelve rashis · The 27 nakshatras
Mahadasha timing
Worked out from the Moon's exact position in its nakshatra at birth, the Vimshottari dasha gives the period running at birth and every period after it. Timing comes last.

Read combinations, never a single placement on its own. A graha is judged by the rashi it sits in, how strong it is there, what aspects it, and which period is running.

Why the birth time matters most

The lagna moves about one degree every four minutes, so it changes rashi roughly every two hours. If a recorded time is out by twenty minutes the grahas barely move, but the lagna may cross into the next rashi, and then every house in the chart rotates by one.

So a birth certificate or a hospital record is better than family memory. If your time is genuinely unknown, the Moon's rashi and nakshatra are usually stable across a whole day, so a good deal can still be read; anything that depends on the lagna has to be held loosely.

What a free chart does not do

Drawing the chart is arithmetic, and the tool does it carefully. Reading it is a separate job. A calculator that prints one paragraph per placement has not looked at whose chart it is, and that is where frightening printouts come from. Treat the chart as a document to check, then to ask questions of.

Questions people ask

Is the kundli on this site free?
Yes. The preview of your lagna, Moon sign, nakshatra and running dasha needs no account and is not saved to one. Keeping the full chart, with its houses, grahas, divisional charts and dasha periods, needs a free account. A written reading of the chart, reviewed and signed by Abhishek Soni, is a paid service.
What do I need to cast a kundli?
Your date of birth, your exact time of birth and your place of birth. The place matters because the time zone in force there on that date, and the rashi rising on the eastern horizon, both depend on it.
Is a free kundli calculator accurate?
For the calculation, yes, provided it names its ayanamsa and handles your birth place and historical time zone correctly. Ephemeris accuracy is not the weak link. Your recorded birth time and a tool's interpretation paragraphs are.
Why does my chart look different on two websites?
Almost always one of three things: a different ayanamsa, a different house system, or a different chart drawing style. Check the lagna rashi first. If the lagna agrees and the drawings differ, you are looking at the North Indian and South Indian layouts of the same chart.
Can I get a reading if I do not know my birth time?
Partly. The Moon's rashi and nakshatra are usually secure across a full day, and a good deal follows from those. Lagna based judgements and precise house work cannot be done honestly without a time.
