A birth chart can indicate windows of two or three years in which the marriage area of your life is most active. It cannot give you an age, and it cannot give you a date. Anyone who tells you that you will marry at twenty seven is either guessing or selling.

That sounds like a small answer to a big question, so let me set out what is actually looked at, why the result comes out as a window rather than a number, and what you can usefully do with it.

What is looked at

The 7th house and its lord. The 7th house is the house of union. The condition of the planet that rules it, and where that planet sits, is the foundation of the whole assessment. Almost everything else refines this.

The 2nd and 11th houses. The 2nd is family and the household one enters, the 11th is gains and the fulfilment of desires. Tradition brings both into marriage timing, because a marriage is an addition to a family as much as a bond between two people.

The mahadasha sequence. This is where timing actually comes from. Life is divided into long planetary periods running in a fixed order from birth, and the periods belonging to the 7th lord, to planets sitting in the 7th, to Venus, and to planets connected with the 2nd and 11th are the ones that bring the marriage area forward. The ages at which those periods fall in your particular chart are the candidate windows.

Transits, as confirmation. Jupiter moving over the 7th house, over the 7th lord, or over the Moon is the usual confirming signal within a window. Saturn's movement over the same points is read as the slowing influence. Transits are used to narrow a window that the periods have already opened. They do not open one on their own.

Saturn, for the pace. Saturn is the planet of delay in this tradition, and where it touches the marriage area it generally reads as later rather than never. Delay and denial are different findings, and they get confused constantly.

Why the answer is a window and not a number

Four reasons, and they compound.

The birth time. Several of the calculations above shift with the rising sign, which changes every two hours, and the finer divisions of the chart change every few minutes. A birth time recorded as "around eleven at night" is not precise enough to support a confident age.

The periods are long. A mahadasha runs for years, some of them for sixteen or nineteen or twenty years. Saying that a marriage window opens inside a period is a real statement. Saying it lands in a particular month of that period is not.

Charts give tendency, not event. A chart can indicate that an area of life is active and supported. Whether a marriage actually happens in that window depends on whether the person meets someone, whether the family agrees, whether money and work allow it. Those are not in the chart.

And the world changed. The ages at which people in India marry have moved substantially in one generation, and they differ between cities and between communities. A technique developed when almost everyone married in their late teens produces windows, not ages, when applied to a person deciding between a job in another city and a match their family has found.

What an honest reading sounds like

Something like this. The chart shows the marriage area strongly supported between these two years and again in this later stretch. The first window is the stronger of the two. Saturn touching the marriage area is traditionally read as a slower pace once things begin, so the stretch between meeting and marrying may well be a long one. If nothing has happened by the end of the second window, that is worth coming back to talk about rather than something the chart already ruled out.

That is a genuinely useful thing to be told. It is also considerably less satisfying than a number, which is exactly why the internet is full of numbers.

What to do with a window

Very little, and that is the point. A window is not an instruction to hurry, and a quiet stretch in the chart is not an instruction to give up. What the information is actually good for is patience: knowing that the next two years are unlikely to be the ones makes it easier to stop treating every month as a failure, and knowing a supportive stretch is coming makes it easier to be open to it when it arrives.
