The major planetary transits of 2026 and 2027, and how to read them against your own chart

Across 2026 and 2027 there are three slow movements worth knowing about. Saturn stays in Pisces for the whole of 2026 and first crosses into Aries around 3 June 2027. Jupiter leaves Gemini for Cancer on about 2 June 2026 and then moves back and forth across the Cancer and Leo boundary until it settles in Leo at the end of June 2027. Rahu and Ketu change signs in the first days of December 2026, moving off the Aquarius and Leo axis they have held since May 2025 and onto Capricorn and Cancer. Everything else in those two years is faster and smaller, and matters mainly when it touches something already active in your kundli.

That last sentence is the part most transit articles leave out. A transit is a planet's present position in the sky, and it is the same sky for everyone alive. What differs is the chart it falls on, which is why the same Saturn that quietly organises one person's year can sit heavily on another's. A transit list is a weather forecast. Your kundli is the house you are standing in.

Saturn in Pisces, and then Aries

Saturn entered Pisces on about 29 March 2025 and stays there through all of 2026. It first crosses into Aries around 3 June 2027, then turns back and returns to Pisces on about 20 October 2027, and it settles in Aries for good in late February 2028. That double crossing is normal for a slow planet at a sign boundary and it matters, because a lot of forecasts quote only the June date. Almanacs differ by a day or two on ingress dates depending on which ayanamsa they use, so take your dates from the almanac you normally follow rather than from any one article, including this one.

While Saturn is in Pisces, Sade Sati is running for three moon signs: Aquarius, Pisces and Aries. Aquarius is in the closing stretch of it, Pisces is in the middle, Aries is at the beginning. Two more moon signs, Leo and Sagittarius, are in the shorter two and a half year Saturn phase that tradition calls dhaiyya.

Being in Sade Sati is not a sentence. It is the period in which Saturn asks whether the structures you have built actually hold: the job, the household arrangement, the health you have been postponing, the money you have not counted. People who use it well come out of it with fewer commitments and better ones. Tradition holds that Saturn rewards patience, repair and honest accounting, and is unkind to shortcuts. That is a description of a tendency, not a prediction of an event.

When Saturn reaches Aries in June 2027, Sade Sati begins for Taurus, continues for Aries and Pisces, and starts to close for Aquarius. Because of the return to Pisces from late October 2027, that closing is not a clean line: for an Aquarius moon sign the last phase tends to ease from the middle of 2027 and to finish properly in early 2028, once Saturn is settled in Aries. If you are an Aquarius moon and you have been counting the months, count them to early 2028 rather than to June 2027, and treat the intervening stretch as the tail of the phase rather than as its return.

Saturn is in its sign of debilitation in Aries, which older texts treat as a period where forcing outcomes works especially badly and steady effort works better than it looks like it is working.

Jupiter into Cancer, then Leo

Jupiter moves about one sign a year, but it does not move in a straight line, and 2026 and 2027 are a good illustration of that. It leaves Gemini for Cancer on about 2 June 2026. It reaches Leo on about 31 October 2026, turns back and re-enters Cancer on about 25 January 2027, and returns to Leo for good on about 26 June 2027. So Jupiter is in Leo for roughly three months across the turn of the year and in Cancer either side of that.

Cancer is Jupiter's sign of exaltation, and it is the transit most people will feel as a change of atmosphere rather than an event. Where Jupiter goes, tradition says, attention and permission go: the area of life that has felt shut tends to open a little. Which area depends entirely on which house Cancer falls in for you, and that is decided by your rising sign, not by your rashi alone.

Two practical notes. First, Jupiter's transit over the 7th house from your Moon, or over the Moon itself, is one of the classical markers for marriage becoming a live question. It is a marker, not a mechanism, and it means very little unless the birth chart already supports marriage in that period. Second, from June 2026 until Jupiter leaves for Leo at the end of October, Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Pisces are in trine to each other, both in water signs, which tradition reads as the two slow planets working with rather than against each other. That is a quieter and more workable combination than the clash some forecasts describe, and it is worth knowing that the window is those five months rather than the whole of the second half of the year. It reopens for a few months from late January 2027, when Jupiter comes back into Cancer.

Rahu and Ketu change signs

Rahu has been in Aquarius and Ketu in Leo since the second half of May 2025. In the first days of December 2026 they shift, putting Rahu in Capricorn and Ketu in Cancer for roughly the next eighteen months. Almanacs counting the true node rather than the mean node place the change about ten days earlier, in the last week of November.

The nodes are the part of a chart people are most often frightened about, and the fear is mostly manufactured. Rahu describes appetite: the thing you keep reaching for, sometimes past the point of sense. Ketu describes the opposite, the thing you have had enough of and can put down. Neither is good or bad. A Rahu period in a well placed house often coincides with people doing ambitious, unreasonable, occasionally excellent things.

What changes at the end of 2026 is the subject of that appetite. Through 2026 it has been the Aquarius subjects: groups, networks, technology and the crowd, with Ketu in Leo loosening the grip on personal recognition. From December 2026 it turns to Capricorn: position, work, duty, the visible result, with Ketu in Cancer tending to drain the urgency out of home, rest and family. 2027 on its own, since it reads differently from 2026

If it is specifically 2027 you came for, here is the year in one paragraph. It opens with Jupiter in Leo, Saturn still in Pisces and the nodes newly on Capricorn and Cancer. In late January Jupiter drops back into Cancer for five months. In early June Saturn reaches Aries for the first time in nearly thirty years, and at the end of that month Jupiter returns to Leo, this time to stay. From late October Saturn steps back into Pisces for the last four months of the year. So 2027 is not a settled year in the way 2026 is: two of the three slow planets spend it crossing boundaries rather than sitting in a sign.

Tradition treats these boundary stretches as periods where a matter is picked up, put down and picked up again rather than decided once, so 2027 gives a less clean signal than a year with one stable configuration. If you are timing something to it, the second half is more settled than the first, and early 2028 is where the new arrangement actually holds.

The faster planets, and why they get too much attention

Mercury turns retrograde three times a year, the Sun changes sign every month, and Mars, Venus and Mercury move through signs in weeks. These are real and they are minor. A Mercury retrograde does not empty a bank account. A Mars transit does not cause an accident. What faster transits do is set the tone of a few weeks, and occasionally they act as the trigger that brings a slow, already-loaded period to a head. If a slow planet is not already touching something important in the birth chart, the fast transit passing over it will not produce much. That is why two people can go through the same Mercury retrograde and one of them barely notices.

How to actually use a transit list

Find your rising sign first, because houses are counted from it. Then note which houses Pisces, Cancer and Capricorn fall in for you, since those are the three signs holding the slow planets for most of these two years, and add Aries and Leo for the second half of 2027. Then look at what your chart says about those houses on its own terms. A transit through a house that is already strong reads very differently from a transit through one that is not.

If you want that done properly rather than approximately, that is what a reading is for. A focused or full reading works from your actual birth data, the period you are running and these transits together, which is the only combination that produces anything specific.

What no transit forecast can tell you

It cannot tell you a date, an amount, or what another person will decide. Anyone writing that a transit will bring you money, or a spouse, or a promotion, is writing to be shared rather than to be right. What a transit reading can honestly do is narrow a window, describe the kind of pressure or opening likely in it, and tell you which of your own decisions matter most while it is running.

Questions people ask

Do these dates apply to everyone in the same way?

The dates do, the effects do not. The sky is shared. Saturn reaches Aries on the same day in June 2027 for a farmer in Vidarbha and a software engineer in Pune. Whether that matters to either of them depends on where Aries sits in their chart and what period their chart is running.

Is Sade Sati really seven and a half years of trouble?

No. It is seven and a half years of Saturn moving through three signs around your Moon, and its character changes across that span. Many people report the middle phase as the demanding one and the last phase as the point where the effort starts to show. Plenty of people build their most durable work during it. The blanket fear around Sade Sati is a marketing habit, not a traditional teaching.

Should I wait for a good transit before starting something?

Usually not. Waiting has its own cost, and most people who wait for a clear sky wait for years. Timing is worth checking for things that are hard to reverse: a marriage date, a property registration, a business launch with money committed to it. For ordinary decisions, a reasonable plan under an average transit beats a vague plan under a good one.
