Where Rahu actually does well: the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses

Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th house is traditionally read as a comfortable placement rather than a difficult one. These three houses reward effort, competition and accumulation, and Rahu is a planet of appetite with nowhere natural to put it. In these houses it finally has somewhere to put it.

That is the whole logic, and it is worth understanding rather than memorising, because it explains why the same planet that is treated with suspicion elsewhere is treated as an asset here.

Why these three houses

The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are called the houses of growth. What sits in them is understood to increase over time rather than to wear out. They are the houses of struggle and its results: courage and initiative in the 3rd, competition and obstacles in the 6th, position in the 10th, gain in the 11th.

Planets that make trouble in gentler houses often do well here, because these houses are already about friction. Saturn, Mars and Rahu all improve in this territory. What would be restlessness somewhere else becomes drive; what would be greed becomes ambition with a target.

The other half of the rule is time. Tradition says these placements start rough and get better, and the difference is usually visible by middle age. The person with Rahu in the 6th who spent their twenties fighting everything is described by the tradition as the settled and formidable one later on.

Rahu in the 3rd house

The 3rd house is courage, initiative, the hands, communication, short journeys and siblings.

Rahu here gives a person who is willing to say the thing nobody in the room will say, and who is not particularly troubled by being disliked for it. The tradition connects it to boldness and to unconventional expression, and in modern terms it shows up in writing, broadcasting, sales, performance, and any work where the point is to get attention and hold it.

It also gives a genuine appetite for risk in effort. Not gambling with money, which is a different house, but a willingness to attempt something without the qualification or the permission that other people would wait for.

The strain, where there is one, tends to sit in the sibling relationships and in the tendency to keep starting. Tradition reads difficulty around brothers and sisters with this placement, and in practice the more common version is simply distance or a relationship that runs hot and cold.

Rahu in the 6th house

The 6th house is obstacles, competition, debt, illness, service, and the people who work under you.

This is the placement people mean when they say Rahu can be a strength. The 6th is where the chart's difficulties live, and Rahu there is read as a difficulty that eats difficulties. Tradition holds that it gives the capacity to defeat opposition, to work through debt, and to outlast a fight that other people abandon.

In the charts I see it in, it tends to show as a high tolerance for conflict, real ability in situations that are adversarial by design, and a durability under pressure that other people find hard to explain. It sits well with law, medicine, audit, recovery work, security, competitive service of any kind.

The honest caution is that a person with this placement can go looking for the fight when there is none, because the machinery is built and idle. And the 6th house is also health, so tradition attaches a caution about digestion and about the effects of a long adversarial life on the body. That is worth taking seriously as a caution rather than as a diagnosis.

Rahu in the 11th house

The 11th house is gain, income, networks, elder siblings, and the things a person wants and eventually gets.

Rahu is considered strongest here of the three. The 11th house is desire fulfilled, and Rahu is desire. Tradition reads this placement as substantial gains, a wide and often unusual circle of contacts, income from more than one direction, and connections with people outside the person's own community or country.

The characteristic shape of it is a life where things arrive through people rather than through institutions. The job comes from someone you met. The money comes from a network rather than a salary. This tends to build over the years, in keeping with the nature of a growth house.

The caution here is the one Rahu always carries: the target keeps moving. Gains arrive and the satisfaction does not, because the wanting is the placement's actual nature. People with a strong 11th house Rahu often describe a long chase in which each achievement is briefly good and then normal. Naming that is most of the remedy.

What this does not mean

None of these placements guarantees an outcome. They describe a disposition and a kind of terrain. Whether it is live in your life right now depends on which mahadasha is running and what is transiting, and how far it goes depends on the sign Rahu occupies, on which planet rules that sign and where it sits, and on what else is influencing the house.

A well placed Rahu in a chart with nothing to support it is a strong engine in a car with no road. That is why a general article can only take you so far, and why the specific question needs an actual chart in front of us.

Is Rahu in the 6th house really good? It is traditionally considered one of Rahu's better positions, because the 6th house is about overcoming, and Rahu is persistent. What it indicates is capability in conflict and endurance under pressure, not a life without conflict. The two are easy to confuse.

Does Rahu in the 11th house mean wealth? It indicates gains and a strong network, which is not the same as wealth. Whether money is kept is read from the 2nd house and from the whole chart. Plenty of people with this placement earn substantially through several channels and hold on to very little.

When do these placements start giving results? Tradition says growth-house placements improve with time, and in practice the difference is usually clear after the first Saturn cycle in the late twenties. The specific timing comes from the running period rather than from the placement itself.
