If Rahu sits in the same sign as a planet that is debilitated, the classical reading is straightforward: Rahu exaggerates whatever it joins, and what it is joining here is a planet already working at a disadvantage. So the tradition indicates an over-expressed version of that planet's weaker side, usually early in life, and often with unusual ability attached to it later.

That is the whole principle. Everything else is detail, and most of the detail cuts against the alarm that this combination usually gets written up with. Let me set out both.

What debilitation actually means

Rahu with a debilitated Mars, in Cancer. Mars is drive and courage, and in Cancer it is turned inwards. With Rahu, the tradition speaks of anger that goes underground and comes out sideways, and of effort that starts fiercely and does not sustain. Why this is usually less serious than it reads

Three things get left out of the frightening version of this article, and all three matter more than the combination itself.

Broadly, they turn on whether the lord of that sign, or the planet that would be exalted there, is well placed and connected to the debilitated planet. The conditions are not exotic, and a reading that stops at the word debilitated without checking whether any of them apply has done half the job.

One combination is not a chart. A kundli is twelve houses, nine planets, the long period of life it is running, and the transits crossing it. Rahu with a debilitated planet is one line in that.
