Taurus is the one rising sign where a single planet, Saturn, rules both houses. Classical writers differ on how to treat that. Some hold that the connection exists by lordship alone and the combination is present in every Taurus chart, which would make it far too common to mean much. Others hold that a single ruler cannot form a relationship with itself and look instead at how well placed that Saturn is. The second view is the more careful one and it is the one followed here, though the question is not settled and it would be wrong to present it as settled.

Step three: look for the connection

Step four: weigh what you found

Finding the connection is the easy half. The reading is in the condition of the two planets, and this is where a calculator stops and a person continues.

Look at the sign each lord occupies and whether it is a comfortable one for that planet. Look at what sits with them and what looks at them. Look at whether either lord is also carrying a difficult house, since one planet often rules two houses and brings both meanings with it. Look at where the meeting happens, because the same two lords joined in the tenth house and joined in the sixth house describe very different working lives.

A connection between two well-placed lords in a supportive house is worth reading closely. A connection between two weak lords crammed into a difficult house is a connection between two weak lords, and calling it a raj yoga does not change that.

Step five: find its season

Tradition holds that a combination in the chart describes a standing capacity, and that the capacity becomes available during the periods of the planets that form it. This is why two people with the same combination can have entirely different decades.

So the last step is to lay your periods out and see when the ninth lord and the tenth lord actually run. If neither has run yet, you are carrying something you have not yet met. If one ran in your twenties, look back and see what it corresponded to before assuming nothing happened.

What it indicates, said plainly

Where this combination is present and strong, tradition holds that a person's work tends to carry a sense of purpose, that guidance and support arrive from teachers, elders and seniors, and that standing tends to build steadily rather than arriving at once. The house it sits in tells you which field.

What it does not indicate is a level of income, a job title, or a date. The classical language around it is grand because it was written in and for a court, and the grandness of the language is not evidence about your life. I would rather tell you that than sell you a phrase.

Is dharma karmadhipati yoga really the strongest raj yoga?

Several classical writers say so, and the reasoning is sound, since it joins the two most consequential houses outside the lagna. But strength in the texts means the potential of the combination, not its performance in a particular chart. A weak instance of the strongest combination is still weak.

Do I have it if the ninth and tenth lords are simply next to each other in adjacent houses?
