Jupiter's 2026 transit, from Gemini into exalted Cancer and on to Leo

Jupiter spends 2026 in three signs. It begins the year in Gemini, turns direct there on 11 March near 21 degrees, enters Cancer on 2 June at about 1:50 in the morning, and moves into Leo on 31 October around midday. The part worth knowing is the middle one: Cancer is Jupiter's sign of exaltation, so from June onwards Jupiter is as strong as it gets in the sidereal zodiac.

That is the whole headline, and most pages about this transit get it half wrong because they quote a single date and stop. Jupiter turns retrograde again on 13 December 2026 near 3 degrees of Leo and steps back into Cancer on 25 January 2027, where it stays until 26 June 2027. So the exalted period is not one clean block. It is roughly June to October 2026, then again from late January to late June 2027.

What a Jupiter transit actually does

Jupiter is the planet tradition associates with growth, teachers, advice, children, law, faith and money that comes as opportunity rather than as wages. Where Jupiter transits, that department of life tends to open up and, just as often, expand past what was planned. Growth is not automatically comfortable. A house that Jupiter is transiting can get bigger, busier and more expensive at the same time.

Jupiter also casts its influence forward. Classical practice gives it three sightlines: the 5th, the 7th and the 9th sign from wherever it sits. From Cancer, that means Jupiter is also working on Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces through the second half of 2026. If your moon sits in one of those, the transit reaches you even though Jupiter is nowhere near your sign.

One more thing about exaltation. It means Jupiter is unobstructed, not that it is generous to everyone. An exalted planet delivers the affairs of the houses it owns in your chart, forcefully. If Jupiter owns a difficult pair of houses for you, an exalted Jupiter delivers those too.

The dates, from the ephemeris

  • 11 March 2026: Jupiter turns direct at about 21 degrees of Gemini.
  • 2 June 2026: Jupiter enters Cancer and is exalted.
  • 31 October 2026: Jupiter enters Leo.
  • 13 December 2026: Jupiter turns retrograde at about 3 degrees of Leo.
  • 25 January 2027: Jupiter returns to Cancer, exalted again until 26 June 2027.

If you are choosing a date for something Jupiter governs, such as a wedding, an admission or a formal start, the June to October window in 2026 is the cleaner one. The late 2026 stretch has Jupiter slowing down and turning back, and traditional practice avoids beginning things while a planet is stationary.

What Cancer means from your moon sign

Read this from your moon sign, the rashi your moon occupies at birth, not from your western sun sign. If you do not know it, the free kundli on this site will give it to you in a minute. Below is which house Jupiter occupies from each moon sign once it enters Cancer, and what tradition associates with it. These are the areas that come forward, not outcomes.

  • Aries (Mesha): 4th house. Home, property, mother, vehicles and peace of mind. The 4th is one of the positions classical texts read cautiously, so this reads as the subject becoming live rather than as an easy year for it.
  • Taurus (Vrishabha): 3rd. Siblings, short travel, communication, effort. Classical texts read the 3rd as one of Jupiter's weaker transits, so expect work rather than windfall.
  • Gemini (Mithuna): 2nd. Family, savings, speech and what you eat. Family money comes up for attention.
  • Cancer (Karka): 1st. Jupiter over your own moon. Health, weight, confidence and how others read you. Tradition is cautious about the 1st house transit even when the planet is strong.
  • Leo (Simha): 12th. Expenditure, travel abroad, hospitals, sleep and letting go become the live subjects. Another of the positions classical texts read cautiously.
  • Virgo (Kanya): 11th. Gains, elder siblings, networks and income. One of the transits tradition speaks well of.
  • Libra (Tula): 10th. Work, status, responsibility, the boss. Also read cautiously in the classical texts, because Jupiter here tends to add duty.
  • Scorpio (Vrishchika): 9th. Fortune, father, teachers, long journeys, faith. A well regarded transit.
  • Sagittarius (Dhanu): 8th. Joint money, in-laws, insurance, matters that need dismantling.
  • Capricorn (Makara): 7th. Marriage, partnership, contracts, the other person in the room.
  • Aquarius (Kumbha): 6th. Debts, competition, service, health. Counted among the harder positions, though people whose work is a contest often find the period usable.
  • Pisces (Meena): 5th. Children, education, creative work, romance, the mind.

Classical practice counts the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th positions from the moon as Jupiter's favourable ones and the rest as harder, whatever the planet's own condition. So the list above is not twelve flavours of the same good news.

Two warnings on it. First, a transit is only one layer. Which mahadasha is running matters more, and a strong transit over a weak natal house does not overrule the chart. Second, the classical rule is modified when another planet sits in a particular paired house, which cancels the reading for that person, so a competent reading is more granular than any list can be.

What this transit does not do

It does not decide your year. I say this because the older version of this article on my site was titled "discover your destiny", and that is not what a Jupiter transit is. Jupiter passing through your 11th house does not deposit money in your account. It describes a season in which gains are the live subject, and what you do inside that season is yours.

The other thing it does not do is arrive on a single day. Planets do not switch on. The weeks either side of 2 June 2026 tend to read as a handover, not as a light being flicked.

If you want the transit read against your own chart, with your mahadasha and your birth time, that is what a full reading is for. For how quickly transits tend to produce visible results in a given chart, the piece on movable, fixed and dual signs is the companion to this one.

Questions people ask

When exactly is Jupiter exalted in 2026?

From 2 June 2026, when it enters Cancer, until 31 October 2026, when it moves to Leo. It returns to Cancer on 25 January 2027 after a retrograde and stays exalted until 26 June 2027.

Is Jupiter's transit good for everyone?

No. Jupiter's strength is real, but its effect depends on which houses it owns in your chart and which house it is crossing for you. Classical practice treats Jupiter as favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th positions counted from the moon, and harder in the rest, whatever the planet's own condition.

Should I wait for Jupiter to enter Cancer before fixing a wedding date?

Jupiter's strength is one input into choosing a date, and June to October 2026 is a favourable stretch on that count alone. But a date is chosen from the couple's charts, the tithi and the nakshatra of the day, not from Jupiter's sign by itself. Do not fix a date on this article.
