How planetary transits affect your career and your money

A transit is simply where a planet is in the sky today, moving across the fixed positions in your birth chart. When people ask what the transits are doing to their career, they are asking about pressure and timing, and that is a fair question. What a transit cannot do is hand you a career the birth chart never indicated in the first place.

I say this at the start because most transit writing gets it backwards. It treats the sky as the whole story and the birth chart as decoration. In practice it is the other way round. The birth chart sets the range. The transit tells you when, inside that range, things loosen or tighten.

What a transit is, and what it is not

Your kundli is a photograph of the sky at the moment you were born. It does not move. The planets, however, keep going. Saturn takes about two and a half years to cross one rashi, Jupiter about a year, Rahu and Ketu about eighteen months. The Sun changes rashi every month, the Moon every two and a bit days.

A transit reading looks at where those moving planets are now relative to your fixed chart. That is all. It is a weather report over a landscape that is already there. Weather matters. It decides whether a journey is easy or slow. It does not decide where the road goes.

This is why two people with the same rashi read the same monthly forecast and have completely different years. The forecast is describing one moving planet over twelve possible starting points. Your chart has nine planets, twelve houses and a rising sign, and the transit lands on all of that.

The parts of the chart a career question actually uses

When someone sits down and says work has stalled, I am not looking at everything. I am looking at a short list.

The 10th house is action in the world: your occupation, your standing, the thing people know you for. The 6th house covers employment in the ordinary sense, service, competition, and the daily grind of a job. The 11th house is gains and the network that brings them. The 2nd house is what accumulates. And the ruler of the 10th matters as much as the house itself, because a house is a room and its ruler is the person who lives there.

Money and career are related but not the same. Plenty of charts show a heavy 10th house and a light 2nd: visible work, modest savings. The opposite exists too. If you want to understand your own, start with which house in your chart is actually strong, because a transit through a weak house does far less than the same transit through a strong one.

Saturn is the planet a career question turns on

Saturn is slow, and slowness is what makes it legible. It entered Pisces on 29 March 2025 and stays there, apart from a brief step into Aries, until 2027. Two and a half years in one place is long enough to reshape a working life.

Tradition holds Saturn to be comfortable when it transits the 3rd, 6th and 11th from your Moon sign, and demanding in the 1st, 4th, 8th, 10th and 12th. With Saturn in Pisces, that puts the Sade Sati period on Aquarius, Pisces and Aries Moon signs, the eighth-house pressure on Leo, and the fourth-house pressure on Sagittarius.

What does Saturn actually do to work. In my experience it removes the parts of a job that were never yours to keep. Roles you held by habit, arrangements that were comfortable but unearned, a title that outgrew the work behind it. People describe it as everything getting harder. What is often really happening is that the shortcuts stop being available. Saturn periods are where people either build something real or discover they had not been.

Sade Sati is not a curse. It is a long, unglamorous stretch. I have watched people set up their best work inside one, and I have watched people spend it waiting for it to end.

Jupiter marks the openings

Jupiter moved into Cancer on 2 June 2026, the sign of its exaltation, where tradition reads it as strongest, and steps into Leo on 31 October 2026. It turns back into Cancer on 25 January 2027 before returning to Leo in June that year. That back and forth is retrograde motion, and it is normal. It is not a warning.

Jupiter is traditionally read as favourable when transiting the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th from the Moon. Where Saturn removes, Jupiter widens. An offer, a course, a person who introduces you to someone, permission to do the thing you had been circling. The word I would use is opening, not success. Jupiter opens a door. Walking through it is not the planet's department.

Rahu changes what you want

Rahu moves from Aquarius into Capricorn on 25 November 2026, with Ketu opposite. Rahu transits are the ones people misread most, because the effect is on appetite rather than circumstance. Something you were indifferent to becomes urgent. A field you had never considered starts to look like the answer. Sometimes it genuinely is. Sometimes it is a hunger that passes when Rahu moves on and leaves you with a decision you made in a hurry.

The practical instruction is unglamorous: during a strong Rahu transit, sleep on the big move. If it is still right in three months, it is right.

How to read a transit against your own chart

Two habits will make transit reading far more accurate.

First, read from the Moon sign as well as the rising sign. The classical transit rules are counted from the Moon, and the rising sign tells you which house of life the planet is walking into. Both together are useful. Either alone is thin.

Second, check the mahadasha before the transit. The larger period running in your chart sets what is possible; the transit decides the timing inside it. A favourable transit during an unrelated mahadasha produces a good few months, not a turning point. A hard transit during a supportive mahadasha is a rough patch, not a collapse. When someone tells me a transit ruined a decade, the mahadasha was usually doing the heavy work.

What transits cannot do

They cannot name a date on which you will be promoted. They cannot tell you the salary. They cannot tell you to leave a job, because that is your decision and you are the one who has to live in it.

What they do reasonably well is tell you which season you are in. Whether this is a stretch for consolidating or for expanding. Whether the resistance you are feeling is your own error or a slow planet doing what slow planets do. That is genuinely useful, and it is enough.

If you want this looked at properly against your own chart rather than your rashi, that is what a reading is for.

Questions people ask

Does a good transit guarantee a promotion. No. A transit indicates a season, not an event. If the chart and the running period support advancement, a supportive transit is when it is most likely to actually land. If they do not, the same transit shows up as a busier, more visible few months and nothing more.

Should I read my rashi forecast or my rising sign forecast. For general reading, the Moon sign is the traditional basis and is the better one to follow. For anything specific, neither is enough by itself, because a twelve-way forecast cannot see the rest of your chart.

Is Sade Sati a bad time for a career change. Tradition treats it as a demanding period, not a forbidden one. What I see in practice is that changes made during it need to be built rather than gambled on. Slow, checked, properly funded moves tend to hold. Impulsive ones tend not to.
