Shatabhisha nakshatra celebrities, and why most of those lists are guesswork
Shatabhisha is the twenty-fourth nakshatra, and it lies entirely inside Aquarius, from 6 degrees 40 minutes to 20 degrees of that rashi. If you came looking for a list of famous people born under it, the honest answer is that nearly every such list circulating online is unverified, because a person's nakshatra depends on their birth time, and most public figures have never released one.
That is not me avoiding the question. It is the question. Once you see why the lists are shaky, the rest of what Shatabhisha means becomes easier to hold sensibly.
What Shatabhisha actually is
The Moon passes through all twenty-seven nakshatras in about twenty-seven and a third days, so it spends a little over one day in each. Shatabhisha occupies the middle stretch of Aquarius, which means every one of its four quarters falls in the same rashi. Anyone born with the Moon here has Kumbha, Aquarius, as their moon sign, without exception.
Saturn owns the rashi. Rahu owns the nakshatra, so a person born under it begins life inside a Rahu mahadasha, and the length of what remains of that period at birth depends on exactly where in the nakshatra the Moon was standing.
The name is usually read as "the hundred healers" or, less kindly, "requiring a hundred physicians". Its deity is Varuna, who in the older texts holds the cosmic waters and, more importantly, oaths and cosmic order. The symbol given for it is an empty circle. Between the circle, the water god and the hundred healers, the tradition is pointing at the same cluster of ideas each time: enclosure, secrecy, things that need to be seen into rather than seen, and healing that arrives after a long look at the cause.
Why the celebrity lists do not hold up
To place someone's Moon in a nakshatra you need the date, the place, and the time of birth. Leave the time out and the answer is often wrong. I checked this against the ephemeris this site runs on: with the time left blank, which most calculators quietly read as noon, the nakshatra that comes out disagrees with the one for the real birth time about one time in four. And when the Moon does change nakshatra during your date, picking between the two candidates without a time is a coin toss.
These lists get built anyway. What you can see from the pages themselves is that they almost never state a birth time at all, and a date-only calculation is exactly what their results look like. Where a page hands you a nakshatra off a Western sun sign, it is doing a conversion that does not exist.
Serious collections of birth data grade every record by where it came from, from a copy of the municipal birth record at the top down to "a relative remembered it" or "an astrologer worked it out backwards" at the bottom. A documented birth time for an Indian public figure is rare, and most biographies carry only the date. So when a page tells you with confidence that a particular actor is Shatabhisha born, ask what the claim is resting on before you accept it. A list you cannot verify is worth nothing to you.
How to check any such list in two minutes
If you want to test a claim you have read somewhere, do this.
Ask what birth time the list used. If the page does not say, that is your answer already. If it does give a time, ask where the time came from. A hospital record, a birth certificate or the person's own published statement is worth something. A number that appears nowhere else on the internet is not.
Then run the date and time yourself. The free kundli on this site gives you the Moon's nakshatra along with the rest of the chart. Move the birth time six hours either way and watch: on many dates the nakshatra changes, and that one experiment tells you more than any argument I could make.
What tradition holds about a Shatabhisha Moon
The old descriptions point towards people who work at a distance from the crowd. Researchers, physicians and healers of various kinds, people drawn to what is hidden in a system rather than what is displayed on its surface, and often astrologers themselves. Aquarius makes the reach wide and impersonal, Saturn makes it slow, and Rahu gives it an appetite for the unusual. Privacy is a recurring theme in the texts, not as concealment for its own sake but as a working condition. The empty circle is a boundary.
The difficulty named alongside these strengths is isolation, and a tendency to hold a position past the point where holding it helps. Varuna is a god of oaths, and Shatabhisha keeps its word longer than is always wise.
None of this decides anything. The Moon's nakshatra is one factor in a chart of nine planets and twelve houses, and I have read charts where a Shatabhisha Moon barely surfaces in the person's life because something else in the chart is much louder. It indicates a texture. It does not issue instructions, and anybody telling you that a nakshatra guarantees a profession or a temperament is selling you something.
The Saturn question that matters more right now
If you were born under Shatabhisha, your Moon is in Aquarius, and Sade Sati has been running for you since Saturn entered Capricorn, the sign before your Moon, in January 2020. It comes in three legs. Saturn entered Aquarius in January 2023, and that middle leg, with Saturn standing on the Moon itself, is the one tradition treats as the heaviest. It moved into Pisces in March 2025, which is the leg running now.
The end date is where most pages get it wrong. Saturn first leaves Pisces for Aries on 3 June 2027, but it steps back into Pisces in late October 2027 on a retrograde and only settles in Aries in February 2028. For an Aquarius Moon the cycle closes in February 2028, not in 2027. If you are reading this now, the hardest stretch is already behind you.
This is worth knowing and it is not worth panicking about. Sade Sati is a transit of about seven and a half years that comes round roughly every thirty years, so most people meet it two or three times in a long life, and this particular run, counted from Saturn's entry into Capricorn to its settling in Aries, is a little over eight years. In practice it tends to be a period of consolidation and slow, unglamorous work rather than the catastrophe the internet describes. The last leg, with Saturn in the sign after your Moon, is usually the one people find easiest to talk about afterwards.
If you want that read against your actual chart rather than against your moon sign alone, that is what a reading is for.
If you were born under this nakshatra
Start by confirming it. If your birth time is approximate, say so to whoever reads your chart, because a rough time is workable for a nakshatra near the middle of its span and genuinely unsafe near either edge. The nakshatra pages under Learn will show you where the boundaries fall.
Then read the nakshatra as one thread among several. Shatabhisha describes how your mind settles and what it is drawn to look at. It does not describe your career, your marriage or your year. Those come from the chart as a whole.
Questions people ask
Which rashi does Shatabhisha nakshatra belong to?
Aquarius, all of it. Shatabhisha runs from 6 degrees 40 minutes to 20 degrees of Aquarius, so all four of its quarters sit in the same rashi and everyone born under it has an Aquarius moon sign. This is unlike nakshatras such as Krittika or Vishakha, which straddle two rashis.
Is Shatabhisha a good nakshatra or a bad one?
Neither, and the question does not have an answer in the form it is asked. The texts describe each nakshatra's character, not its rank. Shatabhisha is associated with healing, research and a preference for working out of view, along with a real tendency towards isolation. Whether any of that helps a particular person depends on the rest of their chart and on the life they are actually living.
Can I find my nakshatra if I do not know my birth time?
Partly. The Moon spends a little over a day in each nakshatra, so with only the date you can often narrow it to two possibilities, and sometimes the Moon stays in one nakshatra across the whole of your birth date, in which case you are certain. Run your date with the time set to early morning and again to late night. If both give the same nakshatra, you have your answer. If they differ, you need the time, and it is worth asking family or looking for the hospital record before accepting a guess.
