Children and creative talent are read from the same house: the fifth. If you searched for either question separately, the answer to both is the same one, and that is not a coincidence in this tradition.

The fifth house is called Putra Bhava. Putra means child, and the house was named for the most obvious thing a person brings into the world. But the older meaning is broader than that. The fifth is the house of what you produce that did not exist before: a child, a piece of work, an idea, a performance, a decision made from your own judgement rather than someone else's.

Why one house holds both

The logic in the classical material is that creation is one act with different outputs. The ninth house is used as a support because it is the fifth counted from the fifth: the tradition reads it as the extension of the line, the children's children.

The second house is the house of family, and it is consulted when the question is about the household growing rather than about a specific child.

The seventh house enters when the question involves the marriage itself rather than progeny alone.

That is the full honest list. Anyone reading only the fifth house for this is reading too narrowly, and anyone claiming to read it from a rashi alone is not reading a chart.

What a chart cannot tell you about children

This is the part where the old content on this site, and most content on the internet, over-promised badly. I want to correct it directly.

A kundli does not diagnose fertility. It never has and it cannot. Fertility is medical, and the people qualified to speak about it are doctors. If you are trying to conceive and worried, the chart is not where to start, and any astrologer who tells you otherwise is taking money for a question they cannot answer.

A chart does not give you a date for a child. There are periods in a chart where the fifth house and Jupiter become active, and tradition holds that such windows are more supportive for family matters. That is genuinely different from a prediction, and I will not blur the two. A confidently wrong date on this subject does real harm, which is why I do not give one.

A chart does not tell you how many children you will have. The old texts do contain rules that claim to, and I do not use them. They were written in a world with different medicine and different choices, and they were not reliable then either.

What a reading can honestly do is describe the shape of the fifth house in your chart, tell you what tradition associates with it, name the periods where family matters come forward, and be straight with you about the limits. That is a smaller promise than you will find elsewhere, and it is the one I can keep.

The fifth house carries the raw capacity: originality, the willingness to make something without a template.

Venus is the planet of the arts. A well placed Venus, particularly one connected to the fifth house, is the classical indication for music, design, dance, and an eye for beauty.

Mercury governs words, craft, calculation and dexterity. Writing, humour, editing, coding and anything where the talent lives in precision runs through Mercury more than through Venus.

The third house is skill of the hands and of performance, courage in front of an audience, and the willingness to keep practising. Many people with real ability and no third house support never show anybody their work.

The tenth house decides whether it becomes a livelihood. This is the distinction that matters most in practice. A strong fifth house with a weak connection to the tenth is a person with genuine talent and no obvious route to earning from it. That is a common, painful and entirely readable situation, and it is worth knowing which of the two is your actual problem.
