What happens to your birth details when you ask for a reading

To read a kundli I need three things: your date of birth, your time of birth as exactly as you can give it, and the place. Those three are kept, because a reading only makes sense against the chart it came from, and because a person who comes back in two years should not have to start again. They are not sold, not traded and not handed to anybody who wants to advertise to you.

This page explains the reasoning in plain language. The formal notice, with the legal wording, lives at /privacy-policy. What follows is the part I would tell you across a table.

Why each of the three is needed

The date places the Sun and the slower planets. It is the piece almost everyone knows, and on its own it is not enough for anything except a rashi.

The time is the one that matters most and the one people supply most casually. The ascendant, which anchors the whole house structure of the chart, moves through a full circle in twenty four hours. A change of two hours moves it into the next sign and rearranges every house in the kundli. The Moon's nakshatra can shift within a single day as well. If the time is a guess, I would rather you say so than round it to the nearest hour and let me build twelve houses on a rounding.

The place fixes the horizon those positions are measured against. Nagpur and Delhi on the same date and time do not produce the same chart.

That is the whole of what is strictly required. A name is useful so that I know whose chart I am looking at. A phone number is needed if the reading is coming to you on WhatsApp. Nothing else is necessary to compute a chart, and you should be sceptical of anyone who asks for more before they will begin.

What is kept, and why

Charts and readings are kept. This is deliberate, and it is worth explaining rather than hiding, because "we delete everything" would sound better and would be worse for you.

Astrology is continuity work. If you asked about a career decision in 2024 and you come back in 2027 about the same career, the useful answer depends on what was said the first time, which period was running then, and what actually happened afterwards. An astrologer starting fresh every time is an astrologer who cannot check their own work. So the chart, the reading and the history of what was asked are retained.

Your phone number is kept for the same practical reason: it is how the reading reaches you and how you reach me.

What is never done with it

Not sold. Not rented. Not passed to a data broker, a lead list or a marketing network. Not used to build a profile that somebody else pays for. This is a reading practice and not an advertising business, and birth details are exactly the kind of intimate data that should never be traded.

You will also not be added to a bulk promotional list because you once asked a question. If a message comes to you from this practice, it should be because it concerns your reading or something you asked for.

That is not the whole account of who sees your details, though, and I am not going to leave the flattering half of it standing on its own. There is one place your details do leave this server, and it is the next section, because it is the part nobody would guess.

The part you would not guess

Two things here are built on top of a large language model, and I would rather you read it on this page than work it out later.

The chart itself is computed on this server and goes nowhere. The free kundli goes nowhere. The panchang goes nowhere. But when a reading is drafted, and when you use the Tara chat assistant, your name, your birth details and the computed chart are sent to the model provider the practice pays for, which is Anthropic, a company in the United States. That is a genuine third party and a genuine transfer of your details out of India, and it is not something a visitor would guess from the outside.

What I can tell you plainly is what that is for and what it is not. It is for drafting and for answering, and nothing goes out on its own: a draft is not delivered to you until it is released from here. It is not an advertising arrangement, nothing is handed to a broker or a lead list at that step, and the provider is not being paid in your data. Their own terms are theirs, and I am not going to paraphrase them into a promise I cannot keep. If a transfer of that kind is not acceptable to you, that is a reasonable position to hold, and it is much better known before you order than after.

What you can ask for

You can ask what is held about you and have it told to you plainly. You can have a mistake corrected, and please do correct a wrong birth time, because everything downstream of it is wrong too. You can ask for your details to be removed, and if you do, the chart and the reading go with them, which means a later reading starts from scratch. That is a fair trade and it is your call to make.

India's data protection law, passed in 2023 and being brought into force, puts these rights on a statutory footing for the country generally. My own position is simpler than the statute: your birth details are yours, you lent them to me for a purpose, and you can end the loan.

A word about astrology apps in general

Since this is the topic, it is worth saying something that applies well beyond my own practice. A free kundli app that asks for your birth details, your phone number, your contacts and your location is not being paid by you, so it is being paid by somebody else, and the data is what is being paid for. Birth date, exact time, place, phone number and a marriage question is a remarkably complete picture of a person, and it is worth real money to anyone selling insurance, loans or matrimonial services.

Before handing that set over to any site, including this one, it is reasonable to ask three questions. What is actually needed to do the job. What happens to it afterwards. Who else sees it. An honest answer to all three should take about a paragraph, and any service that cannot produce one has told you something.

The free kundli on this site computes a real chart, the complete one, with nothing held back for a paid tier. It does ask you to make an account before it casts, so that the chart is saved to you rather than lost when you close the tab, and what that account then holds is set out above. If you would rather have a chart read properly by a person, that is what the readings and sittings are for.

Questions people ask

Do I have to give my exact birth time? It is strongly preferred, because the ascendant and the whole house structure depend on it. If you do not have it, say so rather than guessing, and I will tell you which parts of a reading are reliable without it and which are not. A hospital record, a birth certificate or an older relative's memory of the hour are the usual sources, in that order of reliability.

Will I be added to a marketing list if I ask one question? No. Messages should relate to the reading you asked for. If you ever want to stop hearing from the practice altogether, say so once on WhatsApp and that is the end of it.

Can I have my details deleted after a reading? Yes. Ask, and the chart and the reading go with the details. The one thing worth understanding before you do is that a future reading then has no history to build on, which is a real loss for that kind of work. Some people would rather have the loss, and that is a legitimate choice.
