The 1st house (Tanu bhava, तनु) is one of the twelve bhavas of a Vedic birth chart. Known as the House of Self, it signifies body, appearance, temperament, vitality, the head. It is a kendra and a trikona house, and its karaka is Surya. It is also read for self and personality.
