Nakshatra
Vishakha Nakshatra
Also in: हिन्दी
Vishakha (विशाखा) is the 16th of the 27 nakshatras of Vedic astrology, spanning 200°00' - 213°20' of the zodiac across Tula and Vrishchika. Its lord is Guru and its deity Indra-Agni. Symbol: Triumphal archway. It is of rakshasa gana, tiger yoni and antya nadi, and its lord's Vimshottari dasha lasts 16 years.

What is Vishakha nakshatra?
Vishakha is the 16th of the 27 nakshatras, spanning 200°00' to 213°20' of the zodiac across Tula and Vrishchika. Its lord is Guru, its deity is Indra-Agni (Indragni), and its symbol is a triumphal archway, sometimes a potter's wheel.
Vishakha means forked or two-branched, and its old name is Radha. Its stars are the two brightest of the Scales, Alpha and Beta Librae. Two deities, two branches and an arch at the end: the texts read it as a nakshatra of a goal pursued along more than one line until it is reached.
Which rashi is Vishakha in, and who is its lord?
Vishakha spans two rashis: padas 1 to 3, 200°00' to 210°00', are in Tula, and pada 4, 210°00' to 213°20', is in Vrishchika. Its lord is Guru, and Guru's Vimshottari dasha lasts 16 years. Guru also rules Punarvasu and Purva Bhadrapada, and each of those also has its last pada in the next sign.
A Moon in Vishakha means life begins in Guru's dasha. The balance depends on how far the Moon had travelled: near 200°00' nearly all 16 years remain, near 213°20' very little.
What are the four padas of Vishakha?
The four padas fall in the navamsas of Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna and Karka. The navamsa is the D9, each sign divided into nine, read for marriage and for the real strength of a graha.
Padas 1, 2 and 3 begin at 200°00', 203°20' and 206°40' in Tula; pada 4 begins at 210°00' in Vrishchika. A Moon in the 4th pada is in Vrishchika, the sign of its debilitation, though in the navamsa of its own sign Karka; the texts weigh both. Traditional naming gives the syllables Ti, Tu, Te and To.
What does tradition say about people born in Vishakha?
The texts describe Vishakha natives as determined, ambitious and patient in pursuit of a goal, eloquent and principled. Indra and Agni together are said to give drive, fire and the wish to win; Guru adds learning, faith and a sense of right. Rakshasa gana here is read as intensity and persistence.
Tradition describes the Tula padas as more diplomatic and the Vrishchika pada as more intense and private. The shadow it names is impatience with obstacles, rivalry and jealousy when the arch seems far away.
Which careers are traditionally linked with Vishakha?
Tradition links Vishakha with work driven by targets and conviction: politics and public life, law and debate, teaching and research, religious and philosophical work, sales and campaigning, and any field where a clear goal is chased over years.
The 10th house, its lord and the dashas decide the career. Vishakha describes a way of working, steady pursuit of an aim, not the job itself.
What does Vishakha mean for marriage and kundli matching?
Vishakha is rakshasa gana, tiger (vyaghra) yoni and antya nadi. In Ashtakoota matching nadi carries 8 points, gana 6 and yoni 4. Rakshasa matches best with rakshasa and scores lowest against deva. The tiger yoni is shared with Chitra and counted an enemy of the cow yoni of Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Bhadrapada.
Two antya nadi Moons give nadi dosha, the classical concern, with exceptions in the texts. Matching compares the two Moons. The marriage is read from the 7th house, its lord, Shukra and the dashas.
What does Vishakha not tell you?
"Rakshasa gana" is often heard as a verdict on character; it is a temperament label used in matching, nothing more. A Guru-ruled nakshatra does not mean Guru is strong in your chart: that depends on where Guru sits. And Vishakha hides a sign change: a Moon in pada 4 is a Vrishchika Moon, the other three give a Tula Moon, and only the birth time separates them. Everyone born in that window shares the nakshatra and lives a different life. It is one factor among hundreds; I read it in the whole chart.
