Revati nakshatra and the famous people said to be born in it

Two well known Indians can be said with certainty to have been born with the Moon in Revati: Dev Anand, born 26 September 1923, and Jaya Bachchan, born 9 April 1948. On both those days the Moon was inside Revati from the first minute of the day to nearly the last, so the birth time does not change the answer.

Almost every other name you will find on a Revati list is a guess. This is not a small quibble. The Moon crosses a nakshatra in roughly thirteen hours and twenty minutes, which means the birth date alone settles nothing, and a public figure's birth time is very often unrecorded, approximated, or simply wrong in the places that publish it.

Why the lists you find are unreliable

The zodiac is divided into twenty-seven nakshatras of thirteen degrees twenty minutes each. The Moon covers about twelve to fifteen degrees a day. So on an ordinary day the Moon is in one nakshatra in the morning and the next one by evening, and two people born on the same date in the same city have different birth nakshatras if one arrived before lunch and the other after dinner.

That is the whole problem. A list built from birth dates, which is how most of them are built, is right about half the time by construction. The same arithmetic undoes the lists for every other nakshatra, and if you want to see it worked through with a different set of names, the pieces on Hasta nakshatra and Swati nakshatra sort their own famous names the same way.

There is a narrow exception, and it is what makes the two names above solid. When the Moon is moving slowly, it can enter a nakshatra just after midnight and still be inside it just before the next midnight. Then the whole calendar day belongs to that nakshatra and no birth time is needed. On 26 September 1923 the Moon entered Revati minutes into the day and was still there at 23:59. The same is true of 9 April 1948. Those two are checkable by anyone with an ephemeris, and I would rather give you two names you can verify than twenty you cannot.

Names that are very likely but not certain

Two more come close enough to be worth stating with the reservation attached.

Rabindranath Tagore, born 7 May 1861, has the Moon in Revati for the first twenty-one and a half hours of that day. Unless he was born in the last two hours before midnight, his birth nakshatra was Revati.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak, born 23 July 1856, has the Moon entering Revati a little after five in the morning and remaining there for the rest of the day. Unless he was born before dawn, the same applies.

Names that depend entirely on the hour

For these, the date genuinely does not decide it, and I am listing them so you can see how the arithmetic works rather than as claims.

Kailash Satyarthi, born 11 January 1954: the Moon entered Revati at about 10:38 in the morning, Indian time. Born before that hour, the nakshatra is a different one.

Mohanlal, born 21 May 1960: the Moon entered Revati at about 08:09. Same condition.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, born 19 May 1974: the Moon was in Revati until about 10:06 and then left. Here the condition runs the other way.

All of this is computed with the Lahiri ayanamsa, which is the standard used on this site and by most Indian practitioners, and the times are Indian Standard Time. A different ayanamsa moves the boundaries by a few minutes and can flip a borderline case, and a boundary near midnight lands on a different calendar day depending on which clock you keep.

Four names that circulate and do not check out

Because these appear on almost every Revati list, it is worth stating the negative result plainly. For each of these, the Moon was not in Revati at any hour of the birth date, so no birth time can rescue the claim.

Aamir Khan, born 14 March 1965: the Moon was in Pushya until about 11:29 in the morning and in Ashlesha for the rest of the day.

Lata Mangeshkar, born 28 September 1929: Pushya for almost the entire day, entering Ashlesha only around 21:59.

Sachin Tendulkar, born 24 April 1973: Purva Ashadha until about 17:11, then Uttara Ashadha.

Mirabai, the sixteenth century poet, appears on these lists with a confident nakshatra attached. There is no reliable record of her birth date, let alone her birth time. Any nakshatra given for her is invented.

I am not listing these to score points. If you were told your nakshatra makes you like Lata Mangeshkar, you were told something that is not true, and it is better to know.

What Revati actually is

Revati is the twenty-seventh and last nakshatra, running from 346 degrees 40 minutes to the end of the circle at 360 degrees, entirely inside Pisces. Mercury governs it. Its presiding deity is Pushan, who in the older hymns keeps the roads safe and brings travellers, cattle and the lost home again. Its symbol is a fish, and in some lineages a drum.

Everything the tradition says about Revati grows from that image of safe arrival. It is described as the nakshatra of completion, of the journey's end, of looking after what belongs to someone else. Kindness, hospitality, a gift for finishing what others started, and a certain reluctance to grasp are the qualities the texts return to. Being the final nakshatra, it also carries the sense of a wheel closing before the next turn begins.

That is what tradition holds. It is a description of a tendency, not a prediction, and it says nothing about outcome.

What a birth nakshatra does and does not tell you

Here is where these celebrity lists mislead people most, and it is worth saying plainly.

Your birth nakshatra is the position of one factor, the Moon, at one instant. It is used for naming, for matching charts, and as the starting point for calculating planetary periods, and it is genuinely important for all three. It is not a personality type and it is not a destiny.

Two people can share Revati and share almost nothing else in their charts. Dev Anand and Jaya Bachchan share a birth nakshatra and had entirely different careers, temperaments and lives. If a birth nakshatra were as decisive as the listicles imply, that could not happen.

So the honest use of a list like this is curiosity, not conclusion. If you were born in Revati, what actually tells you something is where Pisces falls in your chart, which requires your birth time, and which period you are running.

Saturn is in Revati right now

There is one thing genuinely worth the attention of Revati-born readers this year, and it is not a celebrity.

Saturn entered Pisces on 29 March 2025 and moved into Revati on 17 May 2026. It steps back into the previous nakshatra on 9 October 2026, returns to Revati on 8 February 2027, and finally leaves for Aries on 3 June 2027. Dev Anand and Jaya Bachchan. On both their birth dates the Moon spent the entire day in Revati, so no birth time is required to confirm it. Everyone else needs a birth time you can trust, and most published birth times for public figures cannot be trusted.

Tradition speaks well of it and classes it as a gentle nakshatra, associated with protection, kindness and safe completion. That is a description of character in the classical sources, not a guarantee of an easy life. No nakshatra is good or bad on its own, and a chart is read as a whole.
